Andhra Pradesh is not only battle ground for many social movements but also the laboratory for many a political party to come, sink and keep floating for a while
Interestingly several seasoned politicians are looking towards ‘The Mega Star’. So many leaders who would not have touched a cinema character with a barge pole yesterday are seeing a messiah in him because of vote maths, magic of fans and the music of coins.

Hussainappa, a 25 years old dalit, congress activist was brutally murdered in his house first week of July, 2008. He was killed in his village in Nandigam, Maddur mandal of Mahabubnagar district. It is in a sleepy village of Telangana.

“Freedom of mind is the real freedom. A person whose mind is not free though he may not be in chains, is slave, is not a free man. One whose mind is not free though he may not be in prison is a prisoner and not a free man. One whose mind is not free though alive, is not better than dead. Freedom of mind is proof of once existence.” – Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the visionary of human dignity, with his great works, explained several threats for the oppressed communities in Indian society. Today, though we are a democratic country, yet we are not free. (ఇంకా…)

I consider D4D site will be beginning of the new era in empowering oppressed communities. Its a platform to unite all the members who are looking for just society, a society where there is no discrimination in the name of ‘caste’, gender, class.
The current situation in India or else where is very alarming inerms of poor or depressed classes.Today’s ‘development’ is concentrated on looting the ‘poor’ and building the ‘rich’. Poor in India are oppressed sections, the SC,ST, or BCs. We are still victims of the ‘top to down’ policies. (ఇంకా…)

The United Nations recently appointed two special rapporteurs to prepare a comprehensive study on discrimination based on work and descent. This note is based on a submission made by Surepally Sujatha to the 11th Session of the Working Group on Minorities of the UN Sub-Commission on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in June 2005.
The Indian Constitution: Minorities in India have been recognised only on the basis of “religion or language”. The Indian Constitution guarantees equality, freedom, justice and human dignity to every citizen and Article 14 specifically assures an Indian citizen’s right to equality. While Article 15 prohibits any discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, Article 17 of the Indian Constitution specifically takes into cognizance the practice of untouchability against the Dalits and forbids its practice. The constitutional safeguards are of course important, but Dalits continue to face multiple problems – in whichever religion they are. (ఇంకా…)
